We finally made it, for real this time too, like we actually went in and walked around. For those of you reading this not from the area who are also not history buffs, Mt. Vernon is George Washington's estate. It is a huge piece of land that houses his Mansion as well as a number of gardens his burial place, farm, and they even have their own harbor (at least thats what they called it). We made the trip with Remely and Brian the couple that I nanny for. It was a long day but also fun to finally get to do it. The main attraction is of course the Mansion and having gone on a Saturday this happened to have about an hour wait to walk through it, so we decided to fore go the Mansion with the intention of returning, of course we all know that is probably not going to happen since it took us that long just to get there in the first place. For those planning on visiting this summer it may just be a place we return to.

So I just wanted you to know how much I loved the headband picture of the girls - so cute! Madison had the funniest look on her face.
Well I think I've lived here longer than you guys and still have never made it there. You're doing far better than me. My problem is I am not the least bit interested in history or museums so I have only done the things that I have done and seen the things I've seen mostly just to say I can or cause someone told me that what I was supposed to do while I was here. Anything I have to pay for is usually out of the question because why would I pay to be bored to death? Anyway, you're awesome and I"m glad that you guys made it up there.
You must be loving living on the East Coast! We're hoping to bring Stu to DC this summer..... but we'll see. I have to tell you, I have a picture of me in the same spot as your family pic at Mt. Vernon (the one with the water behind you, and the tree on the left. Enjoy the next few weeks! Have the Cherry trees blossomed yet?
Send pics when they do.
Thanks for sharing your activities and trips. It doesen't make up for not being with you, but it let's us share in your life. It also brings back memories of having been there many years ago. Soak in the places you can for some day your situation will change and you don't want regrets for the things you didn't do when you could have with a little effort. Madison seems to have enjoyed riding on her daddy's sholders. Love you all very much, Papa
The Mansion is okay; a bit overrated and definitely not worth the wait with a child--good call. I'm glad you guys made it there!
